Slip into the shadows with our best-selling Hades Candle, a grounding fragrance of woods and incense fit for the underworld. Hades is a smoldering blend of bergamot, faint whispers of delicate florals, sitting atop a dry bed of patchouli, sandalwood, and musk - evoking the nostalgia of a '80s new age store or incense wafting from a church altar. Hades is the god of death and the Underworld, and, contrary to popular belief, he wasn't a bad guy -- just misunderstood (no, really)! Hades isn't even the god of death (that is Thanatos), he only rules over them!
Who is Hades?

Hades was the son of the Titans Cronus and Rhea and was consumed by his father (along with his siblings Demeter, Hestia, Hera, and Poseidon) immediately after birth due to a prophecy that one of his children would overthrow him as King of the Gods. Eventually, Zeus, Hades' brother, freed him and his siblings and together they drove the Titans down to the pits of Tartarus and claimed godship for themselves.

After their triumphant victory, the three brothers, Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon drew lots for their portion of the cosmos to rule.  Zeus drew the clear skies and become the king of Mount Olympus, Poseidon drew the fearsome seas, and Hades the dismal and undesirable underworld.

One popular misconception about Hades is that he is the god of death but that is not the case--he is the god of the dead. This simple bit of wordplay is key.  Hades presides over the dead and the Underworld but he does not physically take the souls of people or cause their demise.  Those deathly duties belong to Thanatos, the true god of death and Charon, the ferryman, who carries departed souls across the river, Styx, which separates the land of the living from the dead.

In addition to being the god of the dead, Hades is the god of the hidden treasures beneath the earth -- such as gold, silver, and other precious minerals.  Like most Greek gods, Hades has different facets of his being that serve different purposes -- there is Hades, King of the Underworld and Hades, "the Lord of Riches" who was a giver of wealth and earth's bounty.

I purchased 4 candles as a "sampler" for my husband who is obsessed (er...let's say a collector of) with candles. They all arrived quickly, packed incredibly safely, and with a gorgeous instruction card. Also included were a sticker and gorgeous business card (seriously, that card stock is amazing). I think Hades may be his favorite because he's a huge fan of the nag champa incense sticks. Thank you! We will definitely be back

Obsessed!

I am obsessed with this candle. It easily fills my whole apartment with a warm cozy scent from it's spot on my ancestor altar. Despite burning it quite a bit already it has barely changed level as long as you keep up with clipping the wick. My spouse is big fan of the scent as well and couldn't stop commenting on how good it smelled the first day it arrived.

She's an icon, she's a legend, and she IS the moment. The Hades candle burns beautifully, pools nicely, and smells absolutely divine. It left my entire apartment smelling like musk and incense, which is maybe what the sexy Greek underworld smelt like? Regardless, absolutely buying this again.

Love the scent, and it's strong but not overwhelming! I'm not a fan when a candle is so strong I can smell it from the opposite side of the house and the room it's in is suffocating. Definitely not an issue here, it fills the room wonderfully with plenty of space to still breathe! 10/10 would recommend
